7 areas of Learning
Personal, Social & Emotional Development (PSED)
This area of learning is the main focus at Lammas Green when any child joins us. We are great believers that if a child is happy, content, built firm relationships with their teachers and peers the other 6 areas will naturally fall in place. Mindfulness is embedded into our daily curriculum and plays a huge part of how we communicate to one another. This is one of the Prime areas of learning.
Communication & Language (CL)
Communication and Language is another Prime area of learning. At Lammas Green we use different forms of communication and adapt it to each individual child’s needs. For our Seedlings (6 months -2 years) we use lots of visual signs and Makaton signs. This helps children from a very young age to be able to point or sign to what they would like or need. We sing lots of repetitive songs and encourage all children to listen to lots of stories to widen the vocabulary they hear.
Physical Development (PD)
This is the last Prime area of learning. Physical development enables children to build their fine and gross motor skills. Babies are encouraged to hold and shake toys that will help with their grip and hand eye co-ordination. Our Seedlings learn to crawl, walk and stand using their gross motor skill. Mighty Oaks children learn to run, Jump, climb and balance, they us their fine motor skills to for threading, cutting and much more to enable them to build the strength in their hands to hold a pen and pencil for amazing mark making skills.
Literacy (L)
Literacy is a specific area of learning that is focus on when children turn 3 years old or if they are developmentally ready. We encourage our children to join in with stories and predict how they will end, to understand that there is a beginning, middle and end. We encourage children to recognise their name and the letters in their name. We use environmental text (things that they see every day when out and about) to recognise letters. Children are encouraged to label their own work.
Understanding the World (UW)
Understanding the world is a specific area of learning which helps children understand how things work in the world around them. We look at different cultures, celebrations and encourage our children and families to share their experiences with us. We learn about seasons and how the world around us changes at different times of the year.
Maths (M)
Maths is a specific area of learning which encourages children to recognise numbers, quantities, weight and measure. Children learn maths skills through counting songs, cooking activities, making playdough, playing board games and building activities.
Expressive Arts and Design (EAD)
Expressive Arts and Design is a specific area of learning that encourages and develops creativity, imagination and exploring media and materials. Our children enjoy weekly music sessions having the opportunity to play various musical instruments, weekly dance sessions, moving to lots of different music from around the world. The children have continuous access to arts and crafts materials so they can express their creative flare at any time of the day.
